Why Should I Get My Instrument Cleaned?

We recommend students get their instruments cleaned once a year. Besides restoring its shine, cleaning will also remove any bacteria living in the instrument. Bacteria can be inhaled and cause respiratory problems or other illnesses.
Instrument cases should be checked regularly for mold. Spores can get into the instrument and then subsequently be inhaled.
Mouthpieces should be washed at home at least once a month and instruments should never be played directly after eating (rinse your mouth first!).
Reduce the growth of bacteria and mold by storing instruments in a dry location (bedroom, living room, or hallway). Never store instruments in attics or basements!
Free in-store demonstrations are always available (upon request) to show your child what they can do at home to reduce bacteria in their instruments.
